Wayne Root: Vegas Buzzing for Saturday's UCLA-UNLV Clash

It's not often that you'll find WAYNE ALLYN ROOT spending much time talking about a college football game with a pointspread near 30! But, there's actually a lot of buzz here in Las Vegas about this Saturday night's upcoming meeting between #13 UCLA and UNLV. Nobody thinks it's going to be a thriller. And, THE KING OF UPSETS isn't about to make an upset call on the Rebels. But...this is definitely a game worth paying attention to for several reasons.

New quarterback Josh Rosen was very impressive in his debut last Saturday vs. Virginia. In an era where too many offenses are trying to dink and dunk the ball down the field all day...Rosen's deep passing accuracy jumped off the TV screen. He's not only the real deal...but he already looks this good as a freshman! Think of what's ahead as he continues to learn and mature.

UCLA was already getting respect in the Futures markets before Rosen took the field. He had been that impressive in practice. Once the general public saw him vs. Virginia, everyone wanted a piece of the Bruins as a potential party crasher for the Final Four.

It's obviously very early in the season. And, having a big game vs. Virginia may not end up meaning that much (particularly if Notre Dame does the same thing this weekend). But, for now...Vegas bettors are excited about UCLA. I've told you many times that Vegas is basically a suburb of Los Angeles for sports betting purposes. That's true for the Lakers, the Dodgers, and usually USC in college football. UCLA is about to crash that party. And, the city of Las Vegas is currently more excited about Rosen than any other college football player.

You probably didn't pay much attention to UNLV's season opener last week against Northern Illinois. I hadn't planned on paying much attention to it myself. Until 31-point underdog UNLV jumped out to a 17-3 first half lead!

Locals were really down on the Rebels entering the season. Their new head coach is coming up from the high school level. That's rarely a good sign. There were hardly any returning starters. UNLV was a 31-point underdog for good reason. Some respected bettors thought the line was too low. Well, let me tell you, Tony Sanchez impressed a lot of people out of the gate in what turned out to be a 38-30 loss. People really started paying attention in sportsbooks as the game progressed.

Yes, total yardage ended up being a nasty 594-493. But, gaining almost 500 yards with this offense on the road is unbelievable! Bettors are certainly thinking about backing the Rebels when they play teams in their own class. Their defense is going to be in huge trouble against a potent attack like UCLA's. That's why the pointspread is so high again this week. When Mountain West play begins, the Rebels just might be a value side that will make you some money.

Let's assume Rosen is going to have another big game in an easy UCLA victory. Your job as handicappers is to determine if the market is giving too much respect to the Bruins out of the gate. Remember they didn't cover the spread vs. Virginia even though Rosen starred in all the highlight shows. And, you need to read the energy and body language on the UNLV sideline once the game begins to see if the Rebels may be worth your attention in the coming weeks.

Yes...on a day with great matchups like Oregon/Michigan State and Oklahoma/Tennessee, WAYNE ALLYN ROOT wants you to spend some time checking in on UCLA-UNLV! It will be well-attended locally. Even if the straight up winner isn't really in doubt...the game is a pretty big story here in Las Vegas.

More big stories will be in play with my top selections this weekend in college and pro football! You can purchase my game day BEST BETS in all sports right here at the website with your credit card. The only man in the sports betting industry with a star on the "Walk of Fame" here in Vegas will be back with you soon to talk about the New York Jets season opener against the Cleveland Browns. You longtime readers know I pay particular attention to the New York teams because of my roots in the Big Apple. Will it be new quarterback...same old problems?! Or, are the Jets ready to take a big step forward in 2015. We'll talk about that next time.

For now...the first FULL weekend of college and pro action is in full swing. That means it's time for you to go to W.A.R. alongside WAYNE ALLYN ROOT!
