They are usually around until the opening week of Baseball. With that in mind, let's take a quick refresher class on Wayne Allyn Root's Rules for Betting Baseball.

Wayne Allyn Root's Road to the Final Four Analysis

VCU: This is the same team that lost to Drexel, Georgia State, James Madison, Northeastern early in January. They are also the only team to win five NCAA tournament games and win by double-digits against four of them. They won as double-digit underdogs against both Purdue and Kansas. The Rams were made insulted by the National media for even being in this tournament. They answered by winning five games on the road to the Final Four by an average of 12 points.

BUTLER: Suffered through a tough three game losing streak at the end of January. But who cares? They have reeled off 13 straight wins coming into the Final Four as the hottest team remaining. They have also covered their last six games in a row. Butler has one of the nation’s best head coaches in Brad Stevens (Coach K's replacement down the road). The Bulldogs have one of the country’s premier guards in Shelvin Mack. They have one of the best leaders and clutch performers in senior power forward Matt Howard. They have a great chance of making it back to the Finals for the national-title game. The Bulldogs came up two points short last season against Duke. For the first time in the tournament, Butler will not be an underdog Saturday vs. VCU.

KENTUCKY: Has won 10 games in a row, including winning the SEC conference tournament. They knocked off Florida in the SEC title game (and then watched as Florida was placed as a higher seed). The Cats went out and beat a Big East team, Big Ten, and ACC squads to get where they are this Saturday. Brandon Knight paces the Wildcats and has proven "clutch". Coach John Calipari brings in the experience as he has now coached three schools (UMass, Memphis and UK) to the Final Four. As far as this Wildcat team, he'd rather them have talent tha

Ending the Threat of NFL Players' Strike

None of us want to see a NFL strike threaten the 2011 season. All of us that are in businesses that profit off the success of the NFL should be working overtime to come up with ways to avoid a strike. I will today present just such a proposal.

We all know the NFL wants to expand the regular season from 16 to 18 games- preferably with an extra bye week as well. That would effectively add 3 weeks to the actual regular season. The NFL Players Union acts as if they are against it. They are not. That position is merely a negotiating ploy. The players and their union leaders could not possibly be that ignorant. Regular season expansion is simply an almost-magical way to instantly increase the value of the product and dramatically raise revenues, without really changing a thing (2 preseason games would be dropped). Fans would pay far more for two extra regular season games with meaning, while eliminating two exhibition games that are meaningless and provide poor value to all involved. The result is a substantially bigger pot for both the owners and players to split- without raising ticket prices on the fans.

But I have a suggestion that takes this idea a step further. Has anyone heard the NFL mention whether an expansion of playoff teams is on the table if the season is expanded? This should certainly be part of any regular season expansion deal.

Right now fans are left out in the cold in two significant ways. First we currently have teams that now are eliminated at Week 13 or 14 of a 16-week season...who have nothing to play for over the last 2 or 3 weeks. That is unfair to fans paying huge money for tickets. With the advent of an 18-week season, those same teams could potentially be all-but-eliminated by week 13 or 14 of a 18 week season- thereby leaving what amounts to a month (or more) of meaningless action for their fans.

Why not solve the problem by adding 4 more Wild Card teams to the Post Season? Obviously more

THE NFL FINAL FOUR

THE NFL FINAL FOUR

by WAYNE ALLYN ROOT

NEW YORK JETS vs PITTSBURGH STEELERS

New York Jets (10-6) travel to Pittsburgh to take on the Steelers (12-4). This game will feature big-time players such as Mark Sanchez, LaDianian Tomlinson and Darrelle Revis for the Jets, along with Ben Roethlisberger, James Harrison and Troy Polamalu for the Steelers. All that brash talk the Jets throw around won't have any impact on the Steelers. These guys are seasoned vets so Rex Ryan needs to actually put his test on the field. You can't talk yourself into a trip to the Super Bowl. These two teams battled each other earlier this season in Week 15, with the Jets taking that one 22-17 on the road. There's only been one team to beat the Steelers twice at their place in a season, that being the 2007 Jacksonville Jaguars. Interestingly enough, the Steelers edged out in virtually every statistical category. They had eight more first downs, 99 more total yards and a 5.8 yard per carry average in comparison to the Jets modest 3.9. In addition, the emerging tandem of Mike Wallace and Emmanuel Sanders combined for 14 receptions for 180 yards. Ben Roethlisberger is outstanding at scrambling outside the pocket and making throws which helps eliminate some of the great coverage and schemes that Rex Ryan can employ. The Steelers could be getting back the player everyone inside the organization says is the team’s defensive MVP. Defensive end Aaron Smith is returning to practice this week. The 12-year pro has been out since tearing his triceps Oct. 24 at Miami. The true test, in my opinion, will be the Jets rushing attack (fourth) against the Steelers

WAR LOOKS AT ALL 4 PLAYOFF TEAMS

WAR LOOKS AT ALL 4 NFL PLAYOFF TEAMS

JETS vs PATRIOTS---A quick review is in order so we can keep up with "the mouth." Rex Ryan said it was him against Peyton Manning. Then he said it was personal between himself and Coach Bill Belichick. I can't wait to see if the Jets continue to win the headlines will read: Rex Ryan is calling out Lombardi!  We'll find out if this style really does take the pressure off Sanchez and the rest of the team. (leave it to Ryan to use this as a way to take his own sex scandal with his wife off the front page). Many are pulling for the upset so we can send the Nielson ratings thru the roof watching the post-game interview. It's enjoyable trash talk but tweaking Tom Brady may have "lit the flame into a flash fire". note: do you remember losing your last game there something like 45-3? Nice win on the road for the Jets last week and this will certainly be a different game than their regular season match-ups. It will be in the trenches type of playoff grid. As far as the game, Mark Sanchez is 3-1 in playoff games and will quietly do his job...WAR knows if it will be enough or if the Patriots will continue to amass offensive points and a record number of turnovers.

SEAHAWKS vs BEARS---I say when Pete Carroll is finished with coaching he should be issued a megaphone and some pom-poms. He's all about having fun. He's about the opposite of what the media says is allowed in the NFL. The media says his "slap them on the back rah rah rah stuff" won't work. Well it worked last week. A key note was that they not only beat the Saints but they came from a double digit deficit to do it. Now having defeated the World Champions and having defeated the Bears earlier this season will they be intimidated? Will the match-ups produce a somewhat di

BETTING COLLEGE BASKETBALL.....SUCCESSFULLY

BETTING COLLEGE BASKETBALL.....SUCCESSFULLY

by WAYNE ALLYN ROOT

There are 345 teams that play some sort of College basketball that we can usually bet. My question to you is; would you rather bet on Duke, Kansas or Syracuse laying a huge number because of their talent AND an added inflated few points because they're an obviously top 10 team year in and year out or a team that graduated their starters and are looking to rebuild? I look FIRST to bet against these bottom tiered teams; or in other words, I want to begin my handicapping for the day by looking to go against the newly rebuilt teams. And if there are none then I look to see how the Top 25 teams are verses the over-inflated pointspread produced by the oddsmakers.

The rebuilding teams are a great place to start. Teams that have usually played well year in and year out but are rebuilding this year. Some of these teams pointspreads will be inflated because the oddsmakers know they can "get away with it". But even with the proper power ratings on these squads, these teams in reality are formerly good team fielding bad players or untested players this season.

Let's look at some teams that are in the BOTTOM of the 345 list: teams that I rank 200 to 345. A short "go-against" list. note: this list is constantly being updated as teams may discover a super freshman or a 7th man from last years team.

The first team coming in (or bottom team in this case) to look to go against is San Diego at # 319.
Be careful of the "directional schools" such as Central Michigan coming in at 301. These young teams may be a "go-against" on the road no matter

HEARTBREAK------THE UPS AND DOWNS OF HANDICAPPING

HEARTBREAK: When You Call It Right, Not Just Right But PERFECT, But Get It Wrong

Today is a bittersweet day for me.  I was there for TCU, when no one else was around. I was on the bandwagon BEFORE there was a bandwagon. I analyzed every team in the nation back in August and I picked TCU as the best team in the land. I predicted an undefeated season and a shot at the national championship. I predicted TCU could and would beat any of the biggest, baddest, best teams in the country- Alabama, Ohio State, Oregon, Oklahoma, or even “America’s Sweetheart” Boise State. I’ve been picking dramatic upsets and pointspread winners for 25 years based on one thing- good, sound, fundamental defense. In my opinion, (back in August) TCU had the best “D” in the country- by far.

Once the season began TCU never let me down. They not only didn’t lose…they never came close to losing. They destroyed every opponent- built around the best defense in the country. Down the stretch they allowed their opponents about 7 points per GAME.  I don’t care if you’re playing “St Mary’s Convent” in football. Allowing only 7 points for an entire game, week after week, is impossible. By the 4th Quarter of blowouts, with your intensity lowered, and your starters on the bench, everyone gives up a couple of cheap late touchd

WAYNE ALLYN ROOT'S NFL TOP 10 TEAMS FOR WEEK 15

WAYNE ALLYN ROOT'S NFL TOP 10 TEAMS FOR WEEK 15

1) NEW ENGLAND---Should we just mail in the Lombardi Trophy or make the Patriots go thru the motions and actually play the games? They look great!! Pats fans should start to book flights to Dallas. This appears to be THE Super Bowl team. New England is playing at an elite level right now. They have already clinched a playoff bearth, and if they remain focused, they should be able to finish the season 14-2. Focused? This team is more "focused" than a Nikon 500 Camera.

2) ATLANTA---Atlanta had a great game against Carolina and gets to finish the season with two of three games at home.....(where they DOMINATE). Expect Atlanta to reduce the usage of Michael Turner if possible so his legs can be fresh come January. Falcons' second-ranked third-down offense has converted at least 50 percent in six of past seven games. They go non-divisional and travel 3000 miles this week to Seattle so this is a game that could get away from them if they are not "focused".

3) NEW ORLEANS---I moved them up because they are the defending Super Bowl Champs AND have won 6 straight games...all under the radar. They are entering one of the toughest three-game stretches to close out the season. Beating Baltimore, Atlanta and Tampa would have the team primed for the playoffs as long as their health holds up. Watch Drew Brees take over and stop throwing so many picks. Their running game coming back will help the cause.

4) PITTSBURGH---

WAYNE ALLYN ROOT'S NFL TOP 10 TEAMS FOR WEEK 14

WAYNE ALLYN ROOT'S NFL TOP 10 TEAMS FOR WEEK 14

1) NEW ENGLAND---What does it take to be Number 1 in December? Let's review: Coach Belichich is the offensive genius that traded Randy Moss...AND THEN GAINED OFFENSIVE PRODUCTION! But it's the job Belichick has done with the defense that is truly magnificent with the last six quarters having allowed just 10 points. And, The Patriots look unbeatable at home, which bodes well for the playoffs. Let's give this seasons credit to....THE COACH...and a small assist to Tom Brady!

2) ATLANTA---The 10-2 Falcons have to like their chances with two of their final four games against Carolina. At this point in the season, Atlanta is tops in the NFC and are the front runner for both the South and the top seed in the conference. The overwhelming talent on this team can...will...maybe carry them all the way to the Super Bowl especially with their home record best described as "unbeatable"!

3) PITTSBURGH---The Steelers have escaped a few weeks (at Buffalo, at Miami) on nothing short of luck, and they've been handled pretty easily by two of the top contenders in the league (New Orleans and New England), but they are still in the driver's seat for a division title and a number two seed. There's not a better defensive closer in the NFL right now than safety Troy Polamalu. He's my Steelers MVP.

4) BALTIMORE---A few bounces the other way (or if Joe Flacco had audibled prior to Troy Polamalu's game-changing sack/fumble) and the Ravens

WAYNE ALLYN ROOT'S NCAA TOP 10 FOR WEEK 13

WAYNE ALLYN ROOT'S NCAA TOP 10 FOR WEEK 13

1) OREGON---On Saturday the top-ranked Ducks will take the 47-mile drive north to Reser Stadium to face the Oregon State Beavers in the 114th edition of the rivalry between the two Pac-10 schools. If Oregon can defeat the Beavers on hostile turf, they'll play for the national championship on Jan. 10 in Glendale, Ariz.
They still have one game left. And while the Beavers are having a down season, Oregon needs look no further than Boise State for a cautionary tale. Last season the Rose Bowl was on the line for both teams when Oregon hosted Oregon State. The Ducks earned the conference title and a trip to Pasadena with a 37-33. While the Ducks are rolling, the Beavers are reeling from a 38-0 loss to No. 5 Stanford. Oregon State (5-6, 4-4) needs a Civil War victory to become bowl eligible. The Beavers have been to the postseason for the past four straight seasons. They've played in bowls nine of the last 11 seasons overall. This could get very interesting.

2) AUBURN---The big question is how much did that 24-0 comeback take on these Tigers? And then to turn their attention to the SEC Championship Game. What a task!! This game is a re-match from Game 4 of the season. Auburn had to rally, as it has in eight of its 12 games this season. The Gamecocks led 20-7 early and 27-20 heading to the fourth quarter before Newton threw two touchdown passes for the 35-27 win. Now they have to factor in revenge and beating the same team twice in the same season. What a task!!
And what task presents itself to South Carolina to even things up? The Gamecocks are playing in their first SEC Ch
