A's offer arbitration to Rincon

December 7, 2005, 8:19 pm

Dallas, TX (Sports Network) - Oakland offered arbitration to pitcher Ricardo Rincon, one of five Athletics free agents. However, the A's declined to offer arbitration to pitcher Octavio Dotel, catcher Alberto Castillo, first baseman Scott Hatteberg and designated hitter Erubiel Durazo.

Rincon, a lefty, has until December 19 to accept the offer. If he decides not to accept, Oakland has until January 8 to re-sign him. Rincon went 1-1 with a 4.34 earned run average while striking out 27 and walking 20 in 37 1/3 innings pitched in 2005. He is 21-24 with a 3.53 ERA with 391 strikeouts and 196 walks in 552 appearances in his career. The A's may not negotiate with any of the players they did not offer arbitration to until May 1 and, should they sign with a new team, Oakland will not receive any compensation. Dotel was 1-2 with a 3.52 ERA in 15 1/3 innings pitched for the A's last season. Castillo appeared in 35 games and hit .208 for Oakland last season, while Hatteberg hit .256 in 134 games and Durazo batted .237 in 41 games.
