Wayne Root: I'm Really Looking Forward to the Michigan/Utah Game!
In know everyone's excited about the start of the 2015 College Football season Thursday night. WAYNE ALLYN ROOT is particularly interested in the nationally televised intersectional battle featuring the Michigan Wolverines and the Utah Utes.
Given the histories of the programs, that's a nice matchup to begin with. But, this particular meeting is FASCINATING because it's the Michigan head coaching debut for Jim Harbaugh. The volatile leader has had success wherever he's coached...particularly at the Stanford program that he re-built into a Pac 12 power.
Can Harbaugh have immediate success at Michigan? We're going to learn a lot about that right away with this tough road test.
Key points of interest:
*Michigan has some talent and playing experience at quarterback...but not necessarily high impact talent and experience. Harbaugh won't publicly announce until game time whether his starter will be Jake Rudock (who transferred after a boring career at Iowa) or Shane Morris (who's seen some time as a Wolverine). Either way...or perhaps with both...Harbaugh is very likely to figure out a way to improve on their strengths and hide their weaknesses. This is probably the single most important thing for handicappers to watch Thursday. If Michigan's quarterbacks are moving the ball and making smart decisions, the team will arrive very quickly this season. Such an arrival is badly needed in the Big 10 that is too top heavy this year with defending National Champion Ohio State and current #5 Michigan State.
*Utah is a darkhorse in the very competitive Pac 12 South. USC, UCLA, Arizona, and Arizona State are all ranked from that division. Utah is always tough at home...and has a real chance to at least impact the race if not contend. Note that the Utes would rank #30 nationally if the poll went that far based on the voting. I'll be talking A LOT about the Pac 12 South this season here at the website. It's great we have such a high profile game to get that discussion started! (Look for a discussion of Arizona State's Saturday opener vs. Texas A&M on these pages in a couple of days)
*The earliest "Game of the Year" lines had Utah as a 3-point favorite. Summer sharps insta-bet that up to as high as -5.5 of -6. Michigan money has come in since then to force the line to settle around Utah by 4.5. Very clear evidence that the smartest money likes Utah at a field goal, but also Michigan at +5 or higher. That suggests a very competitive game...and, frankly, is an endorsement of Harbaugh as a head coach given how tough it can be for visitors to play well at this site. A lot of us made BIG MONEY before the line adjusted in his stops at Stanford and the San Francisco 49ers. He's definitely a guy who can wear out his welcome over time. But, that welcome usually consists of significant and fast improvement.
I can't tell you here in a free web article who I'm taking in this game (or if I'm passing). I can assure you I'll be watching every play live, and reviewing the tape through most of Friday. I strongly believe what I learn in this meeting will help me pick winners on or against both Michigan and Utah in the coming weeks. You can't say that about a lot of Week One openers because there are so many clear blowouts. Michigan-Utah is a true litmus test for BOTH teams in terms of what's ahead in the coming season.
I'm the only man in the sports betting industry with a star on the "Walk of Fame" here in Las Vegas because I outsmart and outwork everybody. Picking winners isn't just a matter of studying a few keys before heading out to dinner. You need to plan ahead...you need to recognize the most important learning opportunities...and then you need to POUNCE when the line is right!
I'll help you do that all season long in both college and pro football. My game day selections can be purchased right here at the website with your credit card. If you have any questions about which of my long term programs best suits your individual needs, please talk to my representative in the office at 1-877-ROOT-WINS during normal business hours. Be sure to check on combination packages that include baseball through the World Series.
I know you're counting down the hours until North Carolina/South Carolina on ESPN Thursday at 6 p.m. ET (3 p.m. here in Las Vegas). Personally, I'm counting down until Michigan/Utah on Fox Sports 1 at 8:30 p.m. ET, (5:30 p.m. here in Las Vegas). THAT'S the season opener that may have the single biggest impact on your 2015 betting strategies.
Kickoff is almost here...that means it's time for you to go to W.A.R. alongside WAYNE ALLYN ROOT!
